What is EMDR and How Does it Work?
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy helps the brain and body to update painful experiences so they no longer cause intense emotional or physical reactions in the present.
It achieves this through bilateral stimulation - stimulation of the left and right hemispheres of the brain in quick succession - through eye movements, tapping or sounds.

EMDR therapy can support you to overcome:
-
a single-event trauma (a one off event that continues to cause trauma symptoms),
-
or complex trauma (multiple events or traumas related to relationships).
Sometimes early sessions in your EMDR therapy is to see whether there might be an old trauma wound that you've forgotten about, or were unaware as having a lasting impact - this is not always obvious and is part of the important process of exploring the problems and getting to know you.
