Dr Tamara Parsons

Do you find yourself caught up in worry or panic, held back by self-doubt and perfectionism, or running on empty as a parent? Perhaps you're living with the effects of trauma or loss. Whatever has brought you here, therapy can offer a space to make sense of it and work towards the changes that matter to you.

I work with adults of all ages experiencing:

  • Anxiety, including phobias, panic, social anxiety and health anxiety

  • OCD

  • Depression

  • Low self-esteem and perfectionism

  • Trauma and grief

  • Stress and burnout, particularly parental burnout

I'm an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with 13 years' experience in NHS adult mental health services. In my NHS work, I specialise in supporting mums and birthing people through the emotional challenges of the perinatal period, including maternal trauma and loss.

How I work
Therapy starts with building a shared understanding of what's happening for you, in the context of your life and the world around you. We might think about earlier experiences, relationships and family, or the cultural and social influences that have shaped how you think, feel and behave. We'll look at what might be keeping difficulties going, then at what could help you make changes.

I'm trained in several psychological therapies and draw on them depending on what you're experiencing and what you hope to get from therapy. I'm a BABCP-accredited CBT practitioner and trained in EMDR, and I also use Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and systemic and narrative approaches. We can work in a focused, time-limited way or over a longer period, depending on what feels right for you.

What to expect
I believe the relationship between therapist and client is central to a good experience of therapy. I aim to offer a warm, compassionate, neuro-affirming and non-judgemental space where you feel safe to explore difficult experiences and understand yourself more deeply.
