Dr Gemma Finlay-Carruthers
Do you ever feel like you’re holding everything together on the outside while inside you feel overwhelmed, on edge, or simply worn down?
Many of the people I support are professionals who’ve learned to push through adversity, mask their struggles, or carry heavy responsibilities without ever slowing down. For some, a recent discovery of ADHD or Autism brings relief—alongside grief, insight, and the question: “Now what?” For others, years of strain have begun to show up as burnout, guilt, self-criticism, anxiety, or difficulty in relationships.

I understand this world deeply. I’m a psychologist with over 15 years’ experience in high-pressure clinical environments, and my own late diagnoses of ADHD and Autism helped me make sense of what happens when resilience becomes survival mode. Eventually, I hit burnout too. That lived insight, combined with clinical expertise, shapes how I support you.
My approach is grounded, evidence-based, and always tailored to your unique needs. I work integratively, drawing on EMDR, Compassion Focused Therapy, Schema Therapy, and DBT-skills.
EMDR helps process overwhelming experiences that remain “stuck,” reducing their emotional intensity so you can respond from clarity rather than fear. CFT supports those who struggle with self-criticism or shame, building inner safety and a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
Schema Therapy helps uncover long-standing patterns—formed through early experiences—that still shape your reactions today, allowing us to break cycles and meet unmet needs. DBT-skills bring practical tools for emotion regulation, resilience, and communicating effectively under stress. If any of this feels familiar, know this: you’re
not broken, and it’s okay to want something more than just getting by. If you’re ready to feel better, I’d love to connect and explore whether working together feels right for you.

A note from the founder:
"I was fortunate to work with Gemma for two years before she joined our practice, meeting with her for clinical supervision in her capacity as a psychologist for the local police service. She is highly experienced, a well regarded team member. She's our go-to for advice around neurodivergence and is generous with sharing her own journey with this too."
